Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of the trunk stabilization exercise on improving the Cobb's angle, growth hormone and pulmonary function of scoliosis patients.

Method : The subjects of the study was 30 students: general scoliosis-exercise group(GSEG, n=15) vs obese scoliosis-exercise group(OSEG, n=15). The trunk stabilization exercise was conducted for 12 weeks. Each group participated fifty minutes for three times per week. The pulmonary function[forced vital capacity(FVC), forced expiratory volume at one second(FEV1), FEV1/FVC, peak expiratory flow(PEF) were analyzed by CardioTouch 3000S. Scoliosis angles were measured with Cobb's angle, and their growth hormone(GH) and insulin like growth factor(IGF-1) were analyzed by immunoradiometric assay(IRMA) and radioimunoassay(RIA).

Result : After the intervention, there has been a statistically significant improve in the Cobb's angles, hormone, and pulmonary function to the two groups(p<.05). Additionally, there was a statistically significant difference in the change of the all of three(Cobb's angles, growth hormone, and pulmonary function) between the two groups(p<.05).

Conclusion : To conclude, the trunk stabilization exercise has been effective on improving the pulmonary function and the hormone secretion of scoliosis patients. There has been an improvement in Cobb's angles, the growth hormone and pulmonary function by the trunk stabilization exercise. Therefore, the trunk stabilization exercise is recommended as a good therapeutic intervention method to scoloisis patients.
